The best habit tracker app for most iPhone users is Streaks: a $5.99 one-time purchase with Apple Health automation and no account. On Android, Loop Habit Tracker is a strong free pick. Habitify suits people on both platforms, HabitKit is the best-looking free option, and Habitica turns habits into a game.

Ratings are star averages with rating counts in brackets. In-app prices are the ranges each App Store listing shows; several apps list more than one price for the same tier because of offers or regions, so check the price on the paywall before you pay.
What is the best free habit tracker app?
The best free habit tracker app depends on your phone. On Android, Loop Habit Tracker is free with no paid tier listed. On iPhone, HabitKit is free for up to four habits, and Habitify, Way of Life and Atoms all have free versions with paid upgrades. Habitica is free with an optional subscription for extras.
"Free" means different things in this category, so read the limits:
- HabitKit says it is free with up to four habits, including streaks, the calendar, notes, reminders and backups. Pro unlocks unlimited habits, charts, widgets and more reminders.
- Habitify says it is "available for free on all platforms." Its paid Plus tier unlocks unlimited habits and smart reminders, and Pro adds Apple Health integrations and timers, with a 7-day free trial.
- Way of Life says "Premium simply unlocks unlimited habits," so the free version is the full app with a habit cap.
- Atoms is a free download with a Pro subscription at $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year.
- Habitica is free, with an optional subscription from $4.99 a month to $47.99 a year.
- Loop Habit Tracker lists no in-app purchases on Google Play.
If you want something that costs nothing and you are on iPhone, start with HabitKit and keep it to four habits. On Android, start with Loop.
What is the best free habit tracker app for iPhone and Android?
Habitify is the strongest free habit tracker we verified on both iPhone and Android, and it says it is free on all platforms. Way of Life, Atoms and Habitica also have free versions on both. Streaks is Apple-only and Loop Habit Tracker is Android-only, so pick based on the phones your household actually uses.
How did we choose these habit trackers?
We started from the habit tracker apps with the most ratings and the most search interest, then kept the ones that are actively updated and clearly priced. For each one we recorded the price, the free limits and the platforms from its own listing. We did not run a lab test, and we do not publish made-up scores.
The best habit tracker apps, one by one
Streaks: best one-time purchase for Apple users
Streaks is made by Crunchy Bagel and costs $5.99 once, with no subscription and no in-app purchases listed. You can track up to 24 habits across four pages of six. It can complete habits automatically from more than 80 types of Apple Health data, track Screen Time, and run on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac and Apple Vision Pro. There is no account and no Android version. Read the full Streaks app review.
Habitify: best for iPhone and Android households
Habitify, from Unstatic, is free to download with paid Plus and Pro tiers. The App Store lists Pro at $8.99 a month, $49.99 a year or $119.99 lifetime, plus family plans. It is on Google Play too (4.2 from about 6.7K ratings), which makes it the easy pick if you switch phones.
HabitKit: best visual habit grid
HabitKit, from Sebastian Roehl, turns each habit into a grid of colored tiles, one per day. It is free for up to four habits. Pro adds unlimited habits, charts, widgets and up to three reminders per habit, with monthly, yearly and lifetime options listed from $0.99 to $59.99 depending on the offer.
Loop Habit Tracker: best free habit tracker for Android
Loop is a free Android habit tracker with a 4.7 rating from about 64K Google Play reviews and no in-app purchases listed. It is the closest thing to a "free forever, no strings" habit tracker on Android. There is no iPhone version.
Way of Life: best simple yes or no tracking
Way of Life has you mark each day green or red, then shows the chains over weeks, months and years. It has been around since 2010. The free app has a habit limit, and Premium unlocks unlimited habits.
Atoms: best for Atomic Habits readers
Atoms describes itself as the official Atomic Habits app. It mixes tracking with short lessons based on James Clear's book. It is free with a Pro tier at $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year, and it runs on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Android.
Productive: best for guided programs
Productive, from Mosaic, combines habit tracking with programs, challenges and reflection check-ins. It is free to download; Premium pricing varies by offer, with a 1-month price of $10.99 and yearly prices from $19.99 to $79.99 on the App Store listing.
Habit Tracker (Inner Grow): best for health-synced routines
This app is simply called Habit Tracker and has one of the largest rating counts in the category: 4.8 from about 148K ratings. It syncs with Apple Health for water, steps, sleep, exercise and calories, and lets you share progress with others. Premium starts at $4.99 a month, with a $19.99 lifetime option listed.
Habitica: best for gamers and groups
Habitica turns your habits into a role-playing game: do the habit and your character levels up, skip it and you take damage. Parties let friends quest together, which adds real accountability. It is free, with an optional subscription from $4.99 a month to $47.99 a year. See our Habitica comparison.
What do Reddit users say about habit tracker apps?
In the Reddit threads we read, the same names kept coming up: Loop for a genuinely free Android tracker, Streaks for iPhone users who want a one-time purchase, Habitify as a cross-platform pick and Habitica for people motivated by games. Several commenters also pointed out that a tracker records habits but does not make you do them.
A few representative comments, quoted as posted:
- On r/productivity, one user called Loop "the real deal: fully free, open source, no ads, no premium tier" (thread).
- On r/todoist, a user wrote that Habitify is "simple, multiplatform and not expensive" (thread).
- On r/ProductivityApps, a commenter split the choice in two: "If you want pure habit tracking (streaks/data), Streaks is the best," and added that it "Depends if you need 'Data' or 'Action'" (thread).
These are individual opinions, not a survey, and some posters in those threads were promoting their own apps.
Is a habit tracker enough to change your habits?
A habit tracker is enough if you already know what to do and just want a record. It is not enough if you keep skipping the tasks themselves. Trackers record what happened; they do not plan your day, raise the stakes when you skip, or put another person in the loop. That is a different kind of app.
We wrote more about this split in habit tracker vs execution system. If you want a wider list that includes challenge apps and money-on-the-line apps, see the best discipline apps of 2026.
When a tracker is not enough: what The Operator Standard adds
Most people do not quit habits because they forgot to tick a box. They quit because nothing changed when they skipped. The Operator Standard is built around that moment, and it is aimed at people who want their whole day to move their goals forward, not just a few checkboxes.
- Plan tomorrow tonight. You set up to three goals, and ARCANE, the built-in AI, turns them into five critical tasks for the next day. You wake up already knowing what to do.
- Start with a morning brief. The app tells you where to start, so the first hour goes to the work that matters.
- Keep score honestly. Finish all five and you win the day and extend your streak. Skip one and you take a strike.
- Get a crew. The people in your crew see whether your day is Not Started, In Progress or Won. That small bit of visibility is what most trackers lack.
- See the pattern. A journal and a Weekly Progress Report show how many days you actually won.
It is not cheap: $50 a month or $500 a year on the official site, and $49.99 a month or $549.99 a year in the App Store, with no free plan. That is a lot more than a $5.99 tracker, and it only makes sense if a tracker has already failed you. If it has, the outcome you are paying for is simple: more days where you did what you said you would do.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a completely free habit tracker app?
Yes. Loop Habit Tracker on Android lists no in-app purchases. On iPhone, HabitKit is free for up to four habits, and Habitify, Way of Life, Atoms and Habitica have free versions with paid upgrades.
Is Streaks a subscription?
No. Streaks is a one-time $5.99 purchase on the US App Store, checked November 2, 2026, and its listing shows no in-app purchases.
Which habit tracker app works on Android and iPhone?
Habitify, Way of Life, Atoms and Habitica are on both. Streaks is on Apple devices only and Loop is Android only. For the others we only checked the App Store listing.
How many habits should I track?
Start with three to five. Several apps here cap their free versions at a handful of habits, and that limit is a useful discipline in itself.
Is The Operator Standard a habit tracker?
Not exactly. It tracks streaks, but its core is daily planning: ARCANE turns up to three goals into five critical tasks a day, and a crew sees your progress. It costs $50 a month or $500 a year on the official site.
