How does Habitica work?
You create an avatar, add habits, dailies and to-dos, and earn gold, experience and items when you check them off in real life. Parties let friends team up for extra accountability and, in the listing's words, "battle fierce foes by completing tasks."
Habitica's App Store listing lists:
- Repeating tasks for daily, weekly or monthly routines
- A flexible habit tracker and a traditional to-do list
- Colour-coded tasks, streak counters and a levelling system
- Collectable gear and pets, and inclusive avatar customisation
- Parties for accountability, Challenges with shared task lists, and Guilds for shared interests
- Reminders, widgets and cross-device sync
The listing says Habitica "can be fully enjoyed for free," is open source and run by a small team with volunteer help, and does not sell personal data. Its Group Plans add a shared task board, task assignment and a group chat space for households or teams.
How does The Operator Standard work differently?
The Operator Standard starts from your goals rather than a task list. ARCANE AI breaks each goal into daily critical tasks, a morning briefing syncs your calendar, and finishing all five tasks wins the day. Missed tasks earn strikes your crew can see, and every plan includes MFCEO Project episodes and livestreams.
The practical differences:
- Planning is done for you. In Habitica you decide every task. In The Operator Standard, ARCANE proposes the next steps toward each goal. See ARCANE AI.
- The game is plainer. The Operator Standard uses streaks, strikes, XP and leaderboards, but no avatars, pets or in-game battles.
- The community has a theme. Crews and Topics sit inside a business and discipline community built around the MFCEO Project podcast. Habitica's Guilds cover any interest.
- Audience. The Operator Standard's App Store age rating is 18+; Habitica's is 12+.
